Attracting and Retaining Talent: is writing the answer?

Attract talent by writing. Retain talent by teaching them to write.

Money is nice to attract talent, but money alone will not hold talent in your company. You already know that if you've watched your turnover increase the last several years as the economy improved and you raised compensation packages. 

We live in an age where company culture matters more than company compensation (thank God). The written message matters more than ever. Prospective talent will read what you write. They will get to know your company by what's written on your website, in your blog, and through your social media posts. If that message sounds less than authentic, you will attract less than authentic talent. Let's face it, most of what we read sounds scripted, sifted, and strained. It's not authentic.

If your message revels your culture authentically, you have a much better chance of attracting people who fit. If the people you attract also have a voice--because you taught them to write--you will attract more talent like them. Talent that fits tends to hang around.
